The World of Empire
Empire is an educator-led community where children connect face-to-face, discover remarkable games and grow through shared play.
Founded in 2012, Empire brings together primary-aged children in a warm, screen-free environment shaped by friendship, creativity, critical thinking and healthy competition.
With more than 150 carefully selected modern board games, every session offers new worlds to explore, challenges to overcome and memorable moments to share.
Inside an Empire Session
Every Empire afternoon has its own surprises, but each session follows a thoughtful rhythm designed to help children settle in, connect and make the most of their time together.
1. Arrive & Belong
Children unwind after school, collect their hand-painted nametag and reconnect with friends. We gather together, recite our student-made verse, explore the Value of the Day and set the tone for the afternoon.
2. Discover & Choose
New and featured games are demonstrated, giving children fresh possibilities to explore. Adventurers can volunteer to teach games, then everyone chooses what they would love to play, whether joining friends, welcoming someone new or diving into a favourite.
3. Play & Connect
The room springs to life!
Children strategise, negotiate, laugh, teach one another, solve problems and practise healthy competition through shared play.
4. Recharge &
Adventure On
After afternoon tea and outdoor play, children return refreshed for more games, a Heads or Tails prize challenge and new discoveries, before a shared pack-up, reflection and student-made closing verse.
A Celebration Each Term
The final Empire session is always something special.
Families are invited to join us for a shared feast celebrating the friendships, adventures and achievements of the term.
Children proudly showcase their Artist Alley creations, revisit favourite moments and enjoy one last afternoon together.
And because this is Empire, the term ends with extra excitement: adventurers have the chance to win brand-new board games to take home, helping the joy of shared play continue beyond the club.
From One Table to Many
Empire began in 2012 as a voluntary after-school club in a school library.
Its roots stretch back even further, through childhood game nights, handmade fantasy worlds, crowded gatherings of friends and a lifelong fascination with what happens when people play together.
